Forestry Machines and Sensor Solutions

Forestry machine operators are exposed daily to jolts and swaying, which can be uncomfortable and strenuous. Rottne Industri AB, one of the leading manufacturers of forestry machines, has developed a cab suspension system called Comfort Line to improve the working environment for operators.

For over 10 years, we at Regal have been equipping the Comfort Line system with our PS6500 cylinder sensors. These sensors help to level out the cab’s movements, providing operators writh a stable and comfortable working position, even in uneven terrain.

Our sensors can also be utilized in articulated steering systems for forestry machinery and similar vehicles. Articulated steering allows the rear of the vehicle to follow the tracks of the front, enhancing agility, maneuverability, and minimizing ground impact.

The positioning of articulated steering can be achieved using various sensor solutions, depending on the specific application needs. One option is to use an angle or rotary sensor at the vertical hinge, which is a simple and cost-effective solution. However, in environments with significant stresses such as snow, rain, dirt, and debris, a cylinder sensor in the hydraulic cylinder connecting the front and rear is a better option. This sensor is well-protected within the cylinder, providing a robust and durable solution.

Update January 2025:
Today, Rottne Industries uses our PS6500 cylinder sensors in their harvesters for cab leveling and comfort.
